'What A Ride' 90-Year Old Ironman Lew Hollander's Story (Video)
Lew Hollander's profound statement, "It's what you do when you're 40 that will determine what you do at 80 or 90," resonates deeply with the message of this inspirational video. At 89 years old, Lew exemplifies vibrant health, surpassing the vitality of many individuals half his age. What's remarkable is that Lew didn't suddenly decide to start running marathons at 90; rather, it's the lifestyle choices he made earlier in life that have allowed him to maintain his health and fitness.
This video serves as a powerful reminder that the choices we make today significantly impact our future well-being. While not everyone may aspire to run marathons or compete in Ironman Triathlons, the simple act of staying active and incorporating fitness into our daily lives can lead to a healthier and more fulfilling future for us all.
The Iron Nun (Video)
This video is bound to ignite motivation, regardless of your age, urging you to get up and take action.
Introducing Madonna Buder, famously known as the Iron Nun. Buder has conquered more than 325 triathlons, which includes an impressive tally of 45 Ironman Distances. Remarkably, she embarked on her first triathlon at the age of 52 and her inaugural Ironman at 55. While not everyone may aspire to participate in Ironman competitions, Buder's story underscores the importance of staying active for our overall health and well-being.
What if age is just a state of mind? | Bruce Grierson | TEDxPSU (Video)
Bruce Grierson shares an extraordinary tale of Olga Kotelko, a remarkable athlete in her nineties who defies conventional limits on human capability.
This narrative sums up the profound influence of mindset. I hope that it inspires you to change your perspective on aging, encouraging you to defy societal constraints on aging and embrace a youthful outlook while removing self imposed barriers.
Chasing The Midnight Sun (Video)
The Yukon River Quest is a grueling 715 km race that spans from Whitehorse to Dawson City in the Yukon Territories.
I've included this clip to showcase that, with the right mindset and dedication to training, anyone can conquer a race of this magnitude. I do not have any superpowers, nor am I an elite athlete.
I've taken on the challenge of the River Quest four times, finishing only twice. Completing the race involves navigating through numerous variables, from unpredictable weather conditions to physical and mental endurance and avoiding injury.
Preparing for an endurance race is not much different from planning for good health in retirement in several ways. For example, you need to:
Plan for a successful outcome.
Make choices that some may call sacrifices.
Stay disciplined to the process.
Pivot when necessary. i.e. if you get injured look for ways to compensate, if the ice is still on the river, train indoors.
Enjoy the process not just the outcome!!
Currently, the river and I stand at a tie, so I'm gearing up for my final race in 2025 at age 61, determined to leave my mark on this remarkable journey once more.
